How To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks Fast & Naturally
I simply want to give you what actually works. There has to be logical, & even scientific rationale behind why a substance or technique is beneficial. For stretch mark prevention and reduction, this comes down to just two things:
1. Increased Collagen & Elastin Production: To help tighten the skin and restore elasticity
2. Improving General Skin Quality: To naturally heal/repair epidermis cell membranes & reduce discoloration.
The 5 suggestions I will provide, will do one or both of these things. I have tried literally every tip on the net to reduce the pregnancy lines around my stomach, and I will list only the ones which worked when put to the test.
What Causes Stretch Marks To Begin With?
Scarring & tearing of the skin most commonly occurs during a time of hormonal change in the body, usually accompanied by rapid size or weight gain. This can happen at the on-set of puberty, but even more likely during pregnancy. Studies show that around 90% of women develop stretch marks to some degree on their abdomen, breasts or hips at this time.
The stretching occurs within the Dermis layer (middle layer) of the skin, as the collagen is weakened to a point where the connective tissue passes its natural flexibility & ruptures. This will initially be seen as a thinning of the Epidermis (outer layer) with a slight pink or purple discoloration along the affected lesions.
Over time these lines will fade and become more translucent & white, as the skin naturally repairs itself. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to completely remove stretch marks without surgery. However there are some natural methods which can help significantly reduce their appearance. Check out these home remedies below…
5 Natural Home Remedy Stretch Mark Treatments
1. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is natures most potent natural wound healer and soother. It has been used for centuries to treat cuts, burns and grazes due to its medicinal properties. It’s ability to work magic on the skin means that it is an ideal home remedy treatment for stretch marks.
Make sure you are using a fresh and pure source of Aloe Vera, preferably the gooey juice from the plant itself (if you can find it). For increased effectiveness, add the contents from 5 Vitamin A & 10 Vitamin E capsules. Massage the mixture into the affected areas 3 times a day (do not rinse).
2. Vitamin A
In addition to being used in combination with Aloe Vera, Vitamin A can also serve as a stand alone treatment to heal the skin. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble retinoid and natural anti-oxidant which helps restore bodily tissue to its youthful, vibrant state.
Virtually all skin creams will contain a natural form of Vitamin A. However it is possible to obtain over-the-counter topical Vitamin A extract as a single product. Once again, rub the solution into your stretch marks 3 times a day for best results. It will also help to eat a diet rich in Vitamin A foods such as carrots, sweat potatoes & spinach.
3. Sugar Scrub
One of the most effective things you can do before applying literally any treatment to your stretch marks, is to exfoliate the area first. This acts as a form of microdermabrasion, one of the only clinically proven methods to reduce stretch marks.
It does this by removing dead cells and rejuvenating the top layer of the skin where light scarring and discoloration may have occurred. A natural Sugar Scrub is great for this!
Mix 1 tablespoon of raw sugar with roughly 1/4 cup of almond or coconut oil to form a soft, but abrasive substance. Then add a couple of drops of lemon juice until you reach the consistency of wet sand. Massage the paste into your stretch marks for 5-10 mins whilst in a warm shower for around a month (or until you see desired results).
4. Cocoa Butter
When it comes to moisturizers, Cocoa Butter is king. It is famous for its anti-aging and wrinkle reduction properties. It is able to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin (past the epiderimis) where it replenishes cells & improves circulation. This is a key factor when it comes to reducing the severity and complexion of skin scars & cavities on the body.
Massage the affected area of skin with a liberal portion of Cocoa Butter, 2-3 times a day. Do not rinse off after application. Just let the lotion sink in and be fully absorbed by the skin. You should notice a considerable reduction in the appearance of your stretch marks within a couple of months.
5. Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil is natures other natural moisturizing powerhouse. Applying virgin Coconut Oil to your stretch marks can significantly heal the damage caused by the stretching of the skin, as well as reduce the discoloration with just a few weeks of use.
You can actually substitute Coconut Oil for any natural oil high in Vitamin E (Argan, Almond, Castor Oil etc). As Vitamin E is the active compound at work here.
There is one other oil which is proven to be the most effective when it comes to healing the skin. Squalene Oil. This compound is found in Olive Oil and mimic’s the work of Vitamin E, just with three times the effectiveness. However it can be hard to come by. Squalene Oil is an ingredient within my favorite stretch mark cream. However that’s a discussion for another time.
**Hyaluronic Acid** (Bonus Tip)
The one thing which improves the effectiveness of any stretch mark treatment (or skin care in general) is the bodies level of moisture. You need to stay fully hydrated at all times! The skin is the largest organ in the body and is the first thing to show signs of a dry/wrinkled look due to dehydration. Obviously not ideal when trying to reduce, heal and prevent stretch marks.
Ensure you are drinking at least 3 liters of water per day (4 liters for men) to remain optimally hydrated. You may find that Hyaluronic Acid further helps with this as 1 molecule of this compound can attract up to 1000 times its weight in water. It is naturally found in the eyes & connective tissue in the body.
How To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks VERY Fast (After Pregnancy & Weight Loss)
The natural methods I mention here are great solutions for treating stretch marks. They can however take quite a bit of time and effort to work. I would say you need to give it 3-6 months of consistent treatment (2-3 applications a day) to start to see any real reduction in the existing lines on the body.
