The joy of shedding that excess weight or returning to your pre-pregnancy size, can quickly evaporate when you see those unsightly lines in places you never knew you had! This often leads people to scramble for a solution, something which can get rid of these marks fast! If this sound like you, then you are not alone.
Many folks believe that their battle scars are now just part of who they are. They resign to the fact they will never bring out that two piece bikini ever again! I’m here to tell you this is NOT the case. I have spent the past 2 years researching & testing every method imaginable to treat my own skin & devised this blog to let others know the VERY BEST tips for doing the same.
How Do Stretch Marks Appear To Begin With?
Skin cavities form due to hormonal changes within the body, which are accompanied by a rapid increase in size/weight. A build-up of cortisol has been shown to increase the propensity for stretch marks to form. Combined with excessive stretching of the skin, causes the collagen fibers within the middle (dermis) layer to rupture & break. This will expose the deeper layers of the skin as reddish or purple lines across the body.
Whilst time might be on your side when it comes to healing most things, that is not the case with active stretch marks. Whilst they will naturally fade over time & somewhat return to more natural looking skin. Proactively treating fresh stretch marks within the first six weeks (or as quickly as possible) can go a long way in reducing their appearance & depth in the near term.
Prevention & early treatment is your best bet here. Whilst stretch marks can easily creep up on a person during growth spurts or puberty (making them a little harder to negate). There’s much more scope for stretch mark prevention planning when it comes to pregnancy or a bulking phase for a body builder for instance.
If you already have some stretch, even older ones at that. Fear not. The following are 4 steps anyone can take to significantly reduce the severity of these lines & lesions… & fast!
4 Steps To Blemish Free & Natural Looking Skin
Step 1: Start With The Natural Home Remedies
The first port of call when it comes to getting rid of stretch marks, are the natural home remedies. I’m big on using what I have in the house to treat my aliments if I can. You would be surprised how well some of these compounds & techniques work.
That’s not to say they all do & there are certainly limitations when it comes to the home remedy methods. But as a start, they are well worth a try. I have seen many random suggestions on the net when it comes to treating lesions. Everything from egg whites, potato juice & even wrapping yourself in honey coated clingfilm!
I can assure you, whilst these methods may sound like they might be effective. Most simply are not. The following is a list of natural home remedy treatments which I have tried & have proven to reduce the appearance of my stomach lines by a noticeable amount:
- Aloe Vera Juice
- Vitamin A (Supplementation & Cream)
- Sugar Scrub (Natural Exfoliator)
- Cocoa Butter
- Coconut Oil

Step 2: Try Out The Lotions, Creams & Moisturizers
Once you have tried the natural compounds in the kitchen cupboards, the next step is to test some of the leading topical stretch mark creams. Again, much like home remedy treatments, there are countless options here & you can get dizzy researching these online if you are not careful…
Fortunately, I have again done most of the work for you on this one. After the birth of my first, I spent the next 6 months putting all retail topical creams and lotions to the test. Many failed to make a dent (or reduce the dents on my stomach I should say), but a couple did have an impact. The second of these is absolutely wonderful!
1. Tretinoin Cream – This is one of the most common suggestions when researching creams to reduce stretch marks. Whilst it has been shown to be effective in increasing collagen production & reducing cavity depth, there are a couple of downsides to Tretinoin creams.
Firstly, Tretinoin creams are not advisable for childbearing women. Either pre/during pregnancy due to a precautionary measure over some of the ingredients. Secondly, this type of cream has only been shown to be effective on stretch marks no more than 6 weeks old.
2. Revitol Cream – The stretch mark prevention & reduction cream from Revitol, is the other choice you have here. Not only does it contain all natural ingredients, these compounds have proven high levels of efficacy (I.e. they actually work!) when it comes to reducing unsightly lines on the body. This one can also be used during pregnancy & works on marks much older than 6 weeks.
If I had to pick one go-to treatment out of everything I’ve tested, the magical formula from Revitol would be it. It significantly reduced my pregnancy stretch marks in as little as 3 weeks with just 2-3 applications a day. Check out my full review at the end of this article for more details.
Step 3: Utilize A Natural Cosmetic Or Skin Camouflage
Whilst you should always be seeking to actively heal your stretch marks in order to reduce the impact they have on your skin, there is one trick you can try to reduce their appearance in the mean time. This is through the use of makeup/cosmetics or a skin camouflage.
Again, this is not a cure per se, but something which can help with confidence whilst you are working on the problem. Worrying less about the way your body looks in the short term, can definitely help speed up your recovery.
As I mentioned previously, cortisol (a natural stress hormone) has been shown to contribute to the underlying cause of skin ruptures, as well as reduce the effectiveness of their treatment. So it’s worth doing everything you need to, in order to feel comfortable in your skin – even if you have to cheat to begin with!
A simple foundation or tanning lotion can work wonders for this. Giving your skin a more natural complexion or darker tone will work great at reducing any discoloration.
Step 4: Opt For A Medical Procedure Or Surgery
This final step in this stretch mark reduction process, is kind of the last resort. If the above methods didn’t quite produce the results you were looking for, you have one other option. That is to consult your doctor or local cosmetic surgery clinic for their advice on treating your aesthetic issues. They will recommended one of the following procedures:
- Microdermadrasion Treatment
- Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment
- Fractional Photothermolysis Laser Treatment
I have extensively studied these methods & even watched a friend go through a dermal needling procedure… not for me! These are certainly the quickest ways to reduce scarring of the skin – if you can deal with the pain and cost of the procedures!
